06.19.09 Randy & Jenny | First Lutheran Church & Spanish Village Art Center

When Randy and Jenny first approached me about photographing their wedding, they really stressed the importance of capturing the uniqueness of their event. Rather than a traditional reception, they were planning something more relaxed. A fiesta. A summer celebration with family and friends. Both Randy and Jenny surf and spend time in Mexico, so they wanted to bring that feeling and color to their event. Baja style tacos, great music, cervesas, and margaritas. Well they certainly succeeded, everyone really enjoyed themselves and the open-air courtyard of the Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park was the perfect location. Thank you Randy and Jenny for the opportunity to share and capture such a wonderful day!

I had such a great time working with Luke and Madison for their engagement session and the photographs turned out so amazing, I was really looking forward to their wedding and it didn’t disappoint. It was a whirlwind of a day-we started off with Luke and Madison getting ready at the Sheraton Hotel & Marina on the bay. Then it was off to the Canyon View Church of Christ in Clairemont for a beautiful candle-lit ceremony and finally The Coronado Boat House for the reception, where everyone was ready to cut loose. Congratulations Luke and Madison!

08.08.08 Roy & Lani | Good Sheperd Parish & Miramar Officers’ Club

According to Asian culture, the number eight is associated with good luck. In China, eight is the most popular choice when it comes to cell phone numbers, license plates, and prices. It wasn’t a coincidence that the Summer Olympics began at 8:00 p.m. on 08.08.08. So it comes as no surprise that an above average number of couples chose this fortuitous Friday to exchange vows. And not just in China. The Knot, one of the largest wedding portals on the web, had four times the number of weddings registered on 08.08.08 than it had on any other Friday in August. Las Vegas hotels were advertising $888 and $1,888 wedding packages.
Well, I had the good fortune of spending the day with Roy and Lani and their incredibly warm group of family and friends. After the ceremony and formals, Roy, Lani, and I relaxed and took some informal portraits in a nice garden area behind the church. When we were finished, Roy and Lani realized that everyone else had left and they were car-less. No problem, I had plenty of room in mine. We all loaded up and made the short drive over to the base where the reception was being held at the Miramar Officers’ Club. Unfortunately getting on the base was a little trickier than expected and we were a bit late to the reception. Luckily for me the bride and groom were in the back seat. It was the first time I had driven the bride and groom to their reception and it couldn’t have happened at a better time.
It certainly seems appropriate that I wish Roy and Lani good luck, though after spending the day with them and seeing just how strong their relationship and support group is, I know they won’t need it. But, what the heck. Good luck Roy and Lani!

05.23.08 Charles & Lacey | Pala Mesa Resort

Despite popular opinion, it isn’t always sunny and perfect here in Southern California and things don’t always go as planned. Charles and Lacey discovered this truth first-hand. They had a beautiful event planned at the Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook with an outdoor ceremony and a tented reception under the stars. Unfortunately Mother Nature didn’t exactly cooperate, torrential rains flooded the grounds and sent their day into, in Lacey’s own words, “total chaos”. Well, thanks to the team work of the entire wedding party and everyone else involved, a plan B was improvised and orchestrated brilliantly. The ceremony was held at the nearby Fallbrook Presbyterian Church and the reception was relocated indoors to a banquet room at the resort. Despite the rain, change of plans, and minor increase in stress levels, OK, at times, major increase in stress levels, Charles and Lacey’s event really did turn out absolutely wonderful and perfect.

As always, please feel free to leave comments. I love to hear what you think.
